(Washington, DC)—American swing voters would strongly support leaders who pledge to fight for new investments to strengthen education; provide guaranteed access to quality, affordable health care; and develop technology to achieve energy independence, according to a poll released today by USAction Education Fund.
Seventy-four percent of respondents agreed that "government should do more so that working class and middle income people do not get left behind in today's economy." Seventy-three percent said that "it seems like the federal government always puts the needs of corporate special interests ahead of the needs of average families."
The poll found that swing voters embrace an agenda of investment, favoring more spending on health care, education, and, particularly, energy independence. They believe government should do more to help middle-class and working people succeed in the new economy, strongly supporting investments in education, for both pre-schoolers and college students, to help young people compete.
USAction Education Fund commissioned the poll, which involved 613 likely swing voters and was conducted May 20-25 by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research.
