Health Care

USAction Education Fund is fighting to guarantee health care coverage for all Americans. We fight to preserve and strengthen critical public health programs while our affiliates lead local and national campaigns to expand access to quality, affordable care.

Protecting Medicaid
More than 25 million children (one-fourth of all children in America), 13 million low-income parents, 8 million people with disabilities and 5 million elderly receive health care coverage from Medicaid.  USAction believes that Medicaid should not be cut in order to finance tax breaks for the wealthiest individuals and corporations.  We work for a federal budget that sets the right priorities and cares for the needs of working Americans and the most vulnerable members of our community.

Working Toward a Real Prescription Drug Benefit
We are leading the fight for a real Medicare prescription drug benefit that gives every senior and person with disabilities access to every drug at the best possible price. We need a plan that allows Medicare to negotiate for the lowest possible price to rein in the skyrocketing costs of prescription drugs.  The new Medicare prescription drug law was the wrong solution; it must be repealed and replaced.

Opposing Dangerous "Health Savings Accounts"
Tax cuts marketed as health care policy will not help America's low-income uninsured afford quality coverage.  So-called Health Savings Accounts are just that—tax breaks for those who can already afford costly insurance, and another obstacle to heath care coverage for those who need it most.
