Civil Rights

America has a rich tradition of expanding and protecting the rights of all people to participate equally in our democracy.  Our civil rights successes are vital to America's promise of liberty and justice for all.

USAction Education Fund supports the nomination of judges, including Supreme Court justices, who respect individual and civil rights, reproductive rights, privacy and the legitimate use of government power in the public interest.

The American people want mainstream federal judges who will fairly interpret the law based on judicial precedent and common sense, not right-wing ideologues who will decide cases based on their personal political goals.  Many of the individuals President Bush recently re-nominated to the federal judiciary have already failed confirmation because they have a history of advocating extremist views, rather than mainstream values.

Senate leaders have threatened to confirm these extremist judges by dismantling 200-year-old filibuster rules.  USAEF opposes this attempt to empower the ideologues by steamrolling the minority.  Federal judges work on behalf of the American people, not just the party in power.

USAction Education Fund fights for equality by protecting the rights of immigrants in our country and the rights of individuals of the same gender to marry.  The Constitution guarantees fair and equal treatment to all people, and USAction campaigns to protect these essential rights.
