September 2004 - Citizens for Tax Justice Report
Corporate tax avoidance is on the rise once again, according to a major new report by Citizens for Tax Justice (CTJ) and the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP). The report looks at the 275 largest, most profitable Fortune 500 corporations and the taxes they paid over the past three years, and finds that almost a third of these companies managed to pay less than zero in corporate income taxes in at least one year over this period. As a result, the average American taxpayer paid more than AT&T, Time Warner and Walt Disney all put together in 2003.
